Early Years Foundation Stage

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) classes at The Bridge Easton are for children in Reception and Year 1. Staffing is allocated based on the needs of the children in the class, but as a minimum consists of a class teacher, a Lead Special Needs Professional (LSNP) and two Special Needs Professionals (SNP). The class teacher acts as a key person for the children in their class, but all adults develop strong relationships and work closely with the children in their class.

The EYFS curriculum is based around the seven areas of learning, as outlined in the EYFS statutory framework. The curriculum places a strong emphasis on the prime areas of learning, recognising that the development of these areas is essential for successful learning in the specific areas. Teaching and learning opportunities are planned to incorporate a combination of adult directed activity, adult guided play and child-initiated play and exploration. Children are regularly assessed to monitor their progress and learning, and to enable teachers to plan and deliver next steps.

Our EYFS children enjoy learning through play and practical, hands-on activities. The daily routine balances short adult-led teaching sessions with adult directed activities and continuous provision. Children can practise their social skills during morning and lunchtime play, utilising the MUGA, playground and school field, alongside other children in the school.  Morning and afternoon snack is used as a way to develop children’s communication skills. Snack is provided by the school with children being given a choice of two items. This could include cereal, crackers, breadsticks and raisins. Fresh fruit is offered daily and children have access to fresh drinking water.

Boop is an online platform, used in all EYFS classes to share learning and key information with parents and carers. Staff share photos and written commentaries of children’s learning across all areas of learning on a regular basis. School staff also provide a daily report, outlining specific information for parents related to their child’s school day. Parents can use Boop to communicate with class teams.

Our EYFS aims to provide the fundamental knowledge and skills to give children the very best start in their school lives, and to enable them to make a successful transition into the next stage of their learning journey.
